New Horizons School strengthens the development of global leaders through innovation, international learning, and social impact.

aprendizaje internacional e impacto social

The institution promotes initiatives that integrate international academic experiences, technological innovation, and community engagement to develop change-makers capable of creating positive transformations in their communities and beyond.

Santo Domingo, June 9, 2026 – With the goal of developing students who can create a positive impact both in their communities and on a global scale, New Horizons School (NHS) continues to promote educational opportunities that integrate innovation, leadership, and social responsibility as fundamental pillars of its academic model.

Recently, students from the school participated in various initiatives that strengthened both their academic competencies and civic awareness, locally and internationally. Through programs focused on science, technology, and innovation, as well as community service projects developed in collaboration with TECHO, students had the opportunity to apply their knowledge in real-world contexts, develop leadership skills, and make a meaningful impact in their communities.

"Seeing our students thrive in international settings is a deeply rewarding experience. Every trip, project, or exchange provides them with the opportunity to grow, learn, and discover that their talents can open doors anywhere in the world," said Elisami Cedeño Florentino, Coordinator of International Learning Opportunities and Computer Science.

Innovation and Learning on the International Stage

As part of an international academic experience, NHS students participated in programs and cultural exchange activities in London, where they developed a project focused on climate change research using programming, data analysis, and algorithmic thinking.

Their performance was recognized at the international Europe STEAM League by Coded competition, where they earned first place in the Best Algorithm – Climate Research category. Additionally, one team member received the Coded Spirit Award in recognition of outstanding leadership and exemplary attitude throughout the program.

Social Commitment and Community Transformation

In addition, 24 students participated in a housing construction initiative alongside TECHO, benefiting a family from the Mata Gorda Centro community in Santo Domingo Norte.

The initiative was carried out through the ILOS Changemakers Social Impact Program of the International Schools Partnership (ISP), a global network of more than 100 private schools worldwide. Together with the institution, the program aims to develop change-makers through experiences that combine learning, innovation, leadership, and sustainability to drive positive transformations within local communities.

More than a community service activity, this experience allowed participants to witness firsthand the impact that can be achieved when young people come together with purpose and solidarity. During the project, students collaborated in construction tasks, material organization, logistical support, and engagement with the beneficiary family, demonstrating a strong sense of commitment, empathy, and service.

In addition to contributing directly to the construction of the home, the initiative was supported by fundraising efforts that made the project possible and reinforced the value of social responsibility as a powerful tool for transformation.

Through these initiatives, New Horizons School reaffirms its commitment to a holistic education that prepares students to lead with purpose, innovate with impact, and actively contribute to building a more sustainable, inclusive, and compassionate society.
